Youth ATV The Dream Of The Young
Many youths today are lucky enough to have parents that will buy them an ATV. This growing popular sport is something almost every youth can enjoy. Youth ATVs come in some hot new styles and colors which are sure to please your young sportster.
It is important for parents to make sure their youngster gets the proper gear and safety training. Because of the high rate of ATV accidents, safety is a major concern. There are classes available which teach ATV safety and would be a wise investment. It is best if this safety training takes place before the ATV receives use. These classes are designed to teach the youth how to use the controls as well as how to operate the ATV safely. You might check with your local 4H club to see if there are any classes located near you.
Choosing The Right ATV For Your Youth
Youth ATVs come built for children who are six and older. They have many safety features available which include floorboards, padded handlebars, rear brake lights, and removable keys. There is a new 50cc engine that eliminates having to mix gas and oil. They also come with automatic transmissions and an automatic choke for easy starting.
There is a 90cc four-stroke engine for riders who are age 12 or older. Both the 50cc and the 90cc feature front and rear brakes that are hand operated. Both have a jazzy stylish look which compares to the larger models for mom and dad.
There is a lot of planning that goes into building an ATV for the youth. Years ago regulations were tightened because of the high number of accidents and injuries associated with AVTs and youth riders. Special attention is applied to the speed, lighting, brake suspension, and the general layout of the ATV. Rather than ban the sport for the young, manufactures have been looking at ways to build the ATV with better safety features. There are also guidelines set for the number of ccs you can buy for a given age. Guidelines are placed on the dealers as to what the dealer can do to modify the machine. If a dealer fails to honor these guidelines they could loose their franchise rights.
Even with guidelines in place there are those who will deceive the dealer because they think their child is capable of handling a larger machine. It is unfortunate when a parent will allow their child to ride an ATV which is too large and has too much power for the child to control. Many parents also allow their youth to ride an ATV without a helmet. Safety first begins with the parent and it is the responsibility of the parent to teach their youth what safety equipment to wear and how to safely operate the machine. If handled correctly this can be a fun sport for the entire family to enjoy.
